Band of the Week: Black Doldrums

Back Doldrums are a goth post-punk band out of London who released their debut album, Dead Awake, in March of 2022 on Fuzz Club Records.

The album opens with the dreamy, The Cure-inspired, composition, “Sad Paradise." The guitars push the song along as drums with quiennesstial 80’s reverb pulse in the background.

“Into Blue” follows - a more reserved, quiet song still harkening to the sweet, yet pained guitar sound one can attribute to a classic song by The Cure. Dreamy, dark vocals flow over the subdued drums to create an ethereal, subdued yet bright ballad.

The album includes other masterpieces like “Dreamcatcher” and “Sleepless Nights,” which focus on pulsating rhythmic guitars and drums accompanied by dark, visceral lyrics.

This band is absolutely one to keep your eye on as it seems to me they’re just getting started as far as showcasing their songwriting capabilities.
